I used to splatter myself across every networking group, every low-level membership, thinking exposure was enough. It wasn’t. So I doubled down. I went all in on a smaller, more strategic group, higher-level Chamber membership, intimate rooms, and conversations that mattered. The ROI? Immense. One deep conversation turned into one of our most lucrative referral sources ever.

Content still matters, but it’s the afterthought, not the lead.

Content nurtures. Presence converts. You don’t show up online to “go viral.” You show up to keep yourself top of mind. Yes, but only after you’ve earned trust in real life. Think of content as the follow-up, the long-term relationship builder.

Network like a modern CEO:

  1. Pre-event prep: Know who’s in the room. Not just their name, but their story. What are they excited about? Where do they want to go?
  2. Intentional presence: Stop trying to meet everyone. Own your interactions. Make the people in front of you feel seen.
  3. Follow-up with heart: Don’t send a generic “let’s connect.” Reference the conversation, highlight what excites them, and offer help before asking for anything.

Here’s the kicker: real connections pay off slowly. That client you met two years ago at a random networking event? They might just become your biggest client this year. Patience isn’t sexy, but diluted focus is deadly.

If you want high-ticket clients, stop chasing the algorithm. Stop spreading yourself thin. Start showing up where it counts.
