NOLIA ROOTS WELCOMES JULIA BARGE, PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN
WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT NOLIA ROOTS AND WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a public relations intern at Nolia Roots. My responsibilities will include maintaining relationships with clients, planning and executing events as well as pitching ideas I think have the potential to increase a client’s brand awareness.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST MOMENT — WHETHER IN WORK, SCHOOL, OR BUSINESS — SO FAR?
My greatest moment comes from a marketing course I took last semester at the University of Michigan. I had the opportunity to present a marketing campaign to Kellogg Company’s Pop-Tarts marketing executives. My team and I had to work together to creatively market a traditional children’s snack, Pop-Tarts, to adults. We came up with a risky idea that led to our team winning first place out of five other teams! Overall, this was such a fun experience and definitely a memorable one.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR JOB?/WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR?
My favorite thing about my internship is that I get to work with women who have strong experience in marketing. I am so happy to be at a women-founded company where all voices are heard and respected. I am excited to learn from them as well as put what I do learn to work once I have the opportunity to collaborate on a client project.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
I am most motivated by my grandmother. She migrated to America in the 1960s from Cuba. Without her support and resilience, I would not have the life and opportunities I do today. I am so thankful for her and I want to make her proud!

WHAT’S ONE APP OR GADGET YOU THINK NEEDS TO BE INVENTED?
I think there needs to be an app created for the NY Times Bestselling Booklist. Maybe one that has a one-time subscription fee and after paying for it, you have access to an unlimited amount of books that are on that list.
WHERE CAN SOMEONE FIND YOU ON A DAY YOU’RE NOT AT SCHOOL OR WORK?
At the thrift store! I love thrifting at different shops. It’s such a satisfying experience when you find an item you love.
